Lesvos

I can't believe that I haven't posted anything since February, we have been so busy, with trips, a wedding (not ours!) and family occasions, I just haven't had time, so I will do a few brief posts, with lots of pics!

We did quite a few 'home' based things early in the year, which I will come back to perhaps, but I'll start with our trip to Lesvos in May:....................

So, two weeks in our favourite place, birding, sunshine and tavernas. We stayed as usual in Skala Kallonis, hiring a car for 11 of our 14 days. So that means we started locally and just walked from the village to the river, a nice gentle start to the fortnight.

It was quite warm so we took our time, a simple start with a Hooded Crow, taking a disklike to the Yellow-legged Gull,

there are always plenty of Bee-eaters around,
as well as Crested Lark, probably one of the most common birds on the island.
Warblers singing their heads off

Squacco Heron
and Little Egret down by the river ford
and some moths!

It was just lovely to be back.

So once we had the car it was out and about, first stop Long-eared Owls at Skala K. School,
There were 4 youngsters:

and this is Mom.

So a great start to Lesvos.... to be continued...........
