Another Week Birding in Lockdown or "Down the Cut"

So another 10 days of lock down has gone by and unlike some idiots we are abiding by the rules, I could have a rant but what's the point, those people wouldn't be reading my blog anyway.

Back to birding! We are now up to 36 species for the month, not a huge amount, but we are relying on the garden and the Powke Lane Public Open Space. We are never out more than an hour, but we enjoy the walks immensely. Since the last post we have added Jay, Bullfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Pied Wagtail. We are keeping an eye on a Canada Goose Nest and looking forward to the Goslings appearing. It's amazing how when going to the same spot virtually every day you notice the gradual changes with the leaves on the trees, making it progressively more difficult to find the birds that you can hear, but on the plus side our bird call recognition is improving!

Although today a sound threw us, we couldn't make it out, until we observed a Grey Squirrel making a rachetty kind of sound, we thought it was a corvid!

Anyway here are a few photos from the last 10 days:

So we are still going out down the cut most days for our walk and back through the Powke Lane POS. Our year bird tally is slowly increasing, we have now added Blackcap and Swallow to our list, sorry but no photos of either, but here are a few shots from the garden and our walk;

 First duckling,

 Feisty Coot,
 Lesser Black-backed Gull,
 Holly Blue,
 Small White,

More From Down the Cut!

So with lock down continuing, we are continuing our walks down to the canal and fields. We have added Greenfinch to the tally, while hoping that we eventually see Blackcap, Kingfisher, Goldcrest and White-tailed Eagle! 😂 Well you never know, the marauding Isle of Wight eagles are being spotted all over the place, why not Blackheath or Old Hill!!

Anyway the months total is now up to 30, so can't complain, a pair of Starlings are nesting in our neighbours roof and using our garden for food and a bath!

Local Patch Birding

So with lock down in full swing we are now just birding our garden and the fields/woodland/canal at the end of our cul-de-sac. We are really lucky that we are within 100 yards of woodland, open field and one of the branches of the Dudley Canal. So within Government guidelines we can take our exercise and do a bit of birding. I know it doesn't seem a lot but we are now up to 28 species. We have been down there most days since the 26th March. So here are a few photos;
